We’ve talked a few times lately about the various Locky Dock secure bike stands popping up around the city – and now another one has shown up. This time, it’s actually just by my offices, outside the popular Little Poms cafe on the corner of Fitzgerald Ave and Kilmore St.

As is fairly standard these days, the site has ten docks ready for people to secure their trusty steed to (there’s a certain irony that a couple of cyclists have decided to just park behind them…). By the way, if you’re wondering how these things are paid for, the digital sign at the end says it all – advertising on those panels covers the costs of installation and maintenance.
I’ve thought for a few years that Pomeroys could do with a few more bike parks in its vicinity. I had been thinking that maybe a portable bike stand could be the answer, but these Locky Docks aren’t a bad alternative…
Have you tested out these new Locky Docks yet?

Call me old fashioned, but I fail to see the advantages of locky docks.
How are you not just trusting your bike’s security to someone else’s lock and a phone app ?
For the cost of this one install, how many simple loops could have been concreted securely to the ground ?
That said, I don’t ride an ebike.
You don’t need a phone app, just pull out your contactless payment card and use that to lock and unlock. And I’ve yet to hear of anyone’s bike getting stolen from these.
That’s very interesting to know! I generally dislike services where I have to install yet another app. It’s not mentioned on their web site, and since I assumed you needed an app, if there’s signage on the docks themselves, I haven’t read it.
I confess I have a basic level of mistrust in technology like this which means I’ll always prefer a bike rack… but perhaps I could get over it.
We need to have both types of facilities. There are still dinosaurs around who don’t use a cellphone, including me. At least there a good number of locky docks as often there are too few installed.
