Photo of the Day: Brougham St Overbridge takes shape

The other day my partner and I were biking over to Addington to attend the Christchurch Home Show. On the way, the route took us past the overbridge construction work currently underway on Brougham St, so it seemed an opportune time to capture a photo of the progress being made…

One overbridge up and the approach ramps taking shape…

Yep, following the successful installation of the overbridge structure at the end of June, work has continued to construct the curving approach ramps on either side of it. As you can see, they’re not far off from being ready to open, with an indicative completion date for walkers and cyclists to be able to use it sometime in November (by the way, this link also tells you a bit of the back-story around why the many glass panels covering the bridge are red and gold with distinctive patterns…).

I’m sure it will be a momentous day when the overbridge route (part of the Little River Link Major Cycleway and also to connections south along Simeon St) is finally opened. While there might be a bit of effort to make your way up and over the state highway, it will at least reduce delays for people trying to cross this busy highway and make for a safer crossing experience as well.

Are you looking forward to the opening of this overbridge?
