Away from Christchurch, there is a lot of excitement building up for the final commissioning and opening of the new City Rail Link in central Auckland. It has taken several years and certainly resulted in considerable construction disruption for the downtown area, but the finished product is looking pretty impressive.
At the same time, many of the central city streets there have also received a bit of a makeover and that includes improving the cycling networks along them. Victoria St is one such example, with quite the transformation to turn this into more of a green linear park and cycling corridor. The original work started along the western half, but has now spread further east. When I was in Auckland last November, I happened to snap a photo of what it looked like near Queen St…

As you can see, there is a two-way separated cycleway extending back up towards Albert and Federal Sts. It will also continue further east up to Kitchener St by Albert Park. All of this is another piece of the cycle network puzzle there, helping to provide safer biking connections in central Auckland.
What do you think of the new cycleway route in central Auckland?
