Photo of the Day: City to Sea pathway crossing at Stanmore Rd

Many of you will be monitoring the steady progress of the City to Sea pathway winding its way out to New Brighton from the central city along the Ōtakaro Avon River corridor. I certainly plan to do a bit of a recon ride along it in due course but, for now at least, on my way to do some errands yesterday in Shirley I stopped to look at one of the new crossings at Stanmore Rd:

The new Stanmore Rd crossing – even if not everyone is using it…

As you can see, a raised signalised crossing has been placed just north of the Avon River bridge, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to safely cross what can be a fairly busy road. Interestingly, due to the route wiggling slightly away from the riverside, some people are still opting to take the slightly more direct path option alongside the river – as you can see if you look closely in the distance…

Ah well… It’s great to see lots of road and river crossings being rolled out to create a wonderful off-road route through the Red Zone corridor.

Have you ridden along the City to Sea route yet?
