Highlights from the 2025 Winter Solstice Ride

Another year, another Winter Solstice Ride under our belt! On a fine but crisp Matariki weekend, over 200 people joined us this year for a fun ride around North Hagley Park.

Quite a big turnout for this year’s ride…

Great to see lots of families joining in the fun and lots of excellent lighting and dazzle – not to mention a few great costumes as well!

Definitely a few creative onesies amongst the riders…

Here are a few more photo highlights from the evening…

The crowd getting ready to head off
There’s me at the first mark ready to count everyone and point them in the right direction
Lots of different light variations on display…
Even plenty of wheels also suitably blinged up
Who said it was only bicycles? Here’s a unicycle…
…and even this mean green machine…
Lots of young ones taking part as well
City Councillor and mayoral candidate Sara Templeton joined in the fun
The final count (maybe plus or minus the odd person…) – not a bad turnout

If you didn’t manage to make it this year, there’s always next year! Hopefully you should know the drill by now – every June 21st, mark it in your calendar to turn up at North Hagley Park in your brightest and blingiest bike gear…

Can we top this year’s numbers next year?

Did you join this year’s ride? What did you think?
