Ciclovia is happening in Christchurch on 14th July 10am-4pm where they close off central city streets to cars, then pedestrians, bikes, skateboards, scooters etc can cruise around & have lots of fun. Steven Muir is helping with some activities and needs around 30 volunteers to make fruit smoothies on the bike blender, bike around with mobile sound systems, take kids for joyrides in cargo bikes and fix up peoples bikes for free. Let me know if you could spare 3 hours either 10-1 or 1-4pm 0210619296. If we make it work well it could become a regular event.

regarding the ciclovia event – where do people go to find out more detail? is the city council going to advertise this event? for it to be a success we need as many cyclists supporting it and riding the car free streets
Peter, promotional stuff is being sorted out at the moment. There is a website http://www.openstreets.org.nz but it doesn’t have much detail yet. I’ll put a blog up in the near future about some of the activity plans.
I’d really like to get in touch with the person organising Cyclovia to see whether any more volunteers are needed, and ask some questions. Does any one know who the best person to contact might be and their email address?
