If you need something to help inspire you for your next ride, whether it’s a commute to work or a big cross-country tour, then a new local magazine might be just the thing. The first issue of Journey, by a Wellington/Nelson-based trio of cycle-mad entrepreneurs who go by the name Inspiring Riding, is about to be released.
The aim of Journey is to add a bit of excitement and adventure to your ride. It might be a scenic way to get to work each day on your own, or a great hidden treasure waiting to be ridden on a sunny weekend with family and friends. The publishers are looking to capture riding a bike in all its glory across New Zealand, with contributions from many talented writers, photographers and illustrators.
The genesis of this magazine is interesting. The creators used the crowd-funding website Pozible to seek donations to get their initial print run underway, together with promotion via a Facebook site. Basic donors would receive a copy of the first issue, while larger contributors could receive a longer subscription or some special gifts like photo prints. In a relatively short time, the initial $7500 target was met and Journey was underway!

Journey will be published quarterly, and the first issue is literally on its way to the initial subscribers as we speak, packed with over 70 pages of awesome content. $20 buys you one issue, or $70 will get you all four issues this year (postage included). As well as being able to order it online, you’ll also be able to get a few copies in Christchurch at Scorpio Books in Riccarton.
NB: I’m not associated in any way with the magazine and its publishers. However I did throw a few dollars at them to contribute to the initial print-run…
