Todd Litman and his partner have arrived in Christchurch Friday morning for lots of talks on active transport on Monday, so what better way to start their time in Christchurch than with some active transport from the airport to their central city hotel with the clean green limousine. Steven Muir cycled out to the airport in a 30km/hr Sou-wester with some good showers on the way, on his tandem with a spare bike mounted on his large size cycle trailer. The trailer had an experimental front-fork bracket to mount the bike onto which held the bike up above the luggage bins which were required for the return journey, and the setup performed very well. Using folding bikes is another option but the three seats in total were sufficient for this trip.
Fortunately the rain took a break for the return journey so the plastic covers we used over the bags were not really necessary. Todd and his partner rode the tandem while Steve took the single bike back down Wairakei Rd, along the rail track, through Hagley Park and into Central City. The opportunity to stretch their legs after sitting on a long flight appeared to be welcome introduction to Christchurch.
