Biking activities in September 2020

We haven’t done a monthly wrap-up lately of coming biking events, mostly thanks to a combo of winter and COVID lockdown. But spring is now here (the weather at present has been magnificent…), and Biketober 2020 is not far after that. So it seems time again to have a look at the event calendar

  • The RAD Bikes folks have been doing a number of bike maintenance upskilling workshops lately, and there’s one more set for Mon 7th Sep at Exchange Chch (Wilsons Rd Nth) at 6pm, covering wheel straightening. Come and learn how to tackle the specialized skill of truing your wheel. There is a cost and you will need to pre-register.

  • There’s a new bike maintenance joint on the east side of town – Aranui Bike Fixup. Every Thu from 3-6pm at the Breezes Rd Baptist Church you can come and use our tools and parts to fix your own bike, or learn the skills of how to restore bikes.
  • Hopefully Le Race, the famous Chch-Akaroa bike ride, can still continue on its new postponed date of Sat 19th Sep. But with NZ still not yet down to Level 1; we shall have to see…
Multi-modal transport…
  • Frocks on Bikes Chch have a treat planned for Sun 20th Sep; a repeat of the popular Weka Pass Train & Bike Ride. Book yourself some tickets and get to the Glenmark railway station by ~11.10am to hop on the train to Waikari, followed by a picnic lunch, bike ride, and then train ride back.
  • RAD Bikes continue their twice-weekly bike building/repair sessions at the RAD Shed (cnr Kilmore/Durham) every Wed from 5.30pm and Sun 12-4pm. Sun 27th Sep is a special RAD Bikes session, the Kids Big Fix-Up Day. Come along to help with fixing bikes to giveaway to deserving kids.
Always time for another bike ride…
  • As mentioned, Biketober is not far away at all now, so keep an eye on what is featured in their events calendar. That includes a couple of early events in late September, including a social ride to Redwood Springs on Wed 30th Sep, leaving 10am from the St Albans Tennis Club.

Keep checking our Events and Activities Calendar for the latest news about coming events. As you have no doubt appreciated, COVID restrictions are putting a dampener on some community activities, so it would pay to keep an eye on any event status updates. And don’t forget that next month is Biketober

What will you be up to this month?
