Yeah – since realising the sensor’s in the pathway in Hagley Park I’ve been riding that way more often. Is that skewing the result intentionally? Its still a ride.

Yea I tried out the Quarryman’s trail the other day and couldn’t get through the lights across Brougham Street because I was sixth in queue and it went red before I got to the front. I then had immense confusion with the left-turning car who had got a green arrow by that stage but was still waiting for me to go. I don’t know if it’s a regular thing or not – hopefully it will become increasingly regular.

https://smartview.ccc.govt.nz/#map/layer/ecocounter/@172.62658,-43.53288,13 looks cool – but my standard routes don’t cross a single counter between Rolleston and Victoria St. Could hit the Mickle Gate one in Hagley park but its out of my way.

Also, note some of the counters are single-direction counters, like Antigua Street and Colombo Street south and Worcester Street near Stanmore and Yaldhurst Rd, but the numbers are presented the same as bidirectional counts.

I’m amused how “Plan My Trip” suggests I ride home along SH1 for a bit, and around Hagley Park not through it. Not ideal routing.

I feel like I’m seeing a greater diversity of people on bikes, including an increasing number of older women – great stuff!
I also hear anecdotes about the demographics of those using the cycleways vary significantly by time of day. I’ve heard rumours of marauding packs of happy retirees making use of UniCycle an hour or two after the commuting crew have passed through. Wish I could get some photos of that, might have to take an extended morning tea break one of these days 😉

As a regular cyclist from Avonhead, past Uni and onto Uni Cycle MCR at Matai St, I’m sure numbers are on the up. Seeing the queuing (yes really!) at the Deans Ave crossing is a great thing. The day the CTOC team have to extend the cycle phases because of demand that exceeds the phase duration on a regular basis will be a great thing.
