Another bad sign - the council happily sign off on development designs with footpaths on one side only. Some places lack footpaths altogether, or swap the one foot path from side to side. Car is King in Selwyn.

Yeah - its not like they didn't have the room for a nice paved pathway.

My route is down Jones Road using the pathway where it exists, and nipping onto Manion Road for about 3 km. Sometimes I take Waterloo road but its narrow near Templeton. Sometimes I kick it down the main road, which has a surprisingly good shoulder. Hornby... always sucks as does Sockburn Roundabout. And then Blenheim Road is far superior to Riccarton Road, or one could take the Southern Express cycle route but I find it wiggly and slow.

Another option is a group ride to get more confident with the roads as they lay now.

Why is there no cycle route from Rolleston into city along the motorway? Is it too simple a solution ? Safer!!Quicker!! Happened from Wigram on ! They were smart planners! I have 5 frustrated cyclists that would use it regularly in my home alone

I kinda wish Levi and Weedons Roads had more width, or a dedicated path. They're a good back-road out of Rolleston that avoids the Gateway of Doom.

The upcoming motorway bridge roadworks etc will be fun, in a type-3 kind of fun way so having an alternate exit would be good.

Public and cycling infrastructure is lagging big time in Selwyn. Interesting that the council decided to build a Rolleston-West Melton cycleway and not focus on building a cycleway network in Rolleston and Lincoln centre.
