I just love the Christchurch Coastal Pathway, but just today I have found (actually a mate showed me) a slower more scenic option. From Sumner, turn left into McCormacks Bay Rd, and right into the park some 200m or so into the park, Cut across the fields to the inner estuary and turn left to follow a slow path around the estuary edge, across a bridge or two and head for the Mt. Pleasant Community Centre, where there's a small friendly market on Saturday mornings and a cafe most days.

Biking in this direction there is one surprise - a sharp left turn from the estuary edge followed by a short (say 5m) "steep" section that will stop you unless you are prepared.

Be sure to cross the Main Rd safely to rejoin the Christchurch Coastal Pathway.
