You get 5~6 metres more width and can see further ahead around corners giving you a little more reaction time.

I also ride with a gopro running all the time in case I need proof, and I have a really loud airhorn for the times cars “drift” before turning across our bike-lane. There’s roughly one noteworthy event in each week of commuting.

I’m not saying to ride aggressively, but do ride assertively.
