We had a long overdue win at Edgeware Village a few months ago with 3 shiny new hoops installed over the other side of Bailies Bar car park. Good to see but a little awkward for space with a big sign structure in the way. I do try though. Noticed recently when tying up outside Crisp for a very quick in out purchase that the stands were empty but that there were 3 other bikes tied up outside Crisp also. Popular place.

The Securabike locker/stand combos at Riccarton Mall are some of my favourites. Being able to leave my jacket/gloves/helmet and any other bags I don't need for shopping in a secure locker is pretty awesome. And most of them are under cover.

My brickbat would go to the customers of Homebase/Bunnings on Marshlands Road. The centre has great looking "staple" style bike stands - which are then used as trolley returns by customers who don't want to walk another few metres back to the shop.

And unfortunately, Stanmore New World's bike racks are now the awful low "toast rack" style, which don't work with wider or skinny road tyres, or disc brakes, and are often too low for chains & locks to reach from the frame. I've taken to locking up to the metal handrail that runs along the side of the building at hip-height when I go there.

"A bit out of the way, but reasonably functional (albeit maybe too close together?)"

Maybe it's the photo but I doubt it would work for my bike. I have a basket on the front and a child's seat on the back too. As it is I am finding that there are a number of bike stands around Ashburton that don't fit the wide tyres on my bike.

Tower Junction bike parking exists, there are some stands near the Bunnings garden area entrance, on the left as you enter from Mandeville St. More are beside EziBuy, near to where you can cut through to the railway station front door/dropoff road . The railway station itself has nothing I can find. There are some outside the Torpedo7 workshop, cnr Picton and Foster but they're in the footpath. The main T7 shop has nothing.

I think next week's brick bat should go to any bike shops that don't have bike stands. Cuz, really?
