I think this road is horrible and I generally end up riding on the road and eschewing the odd cycle lanes.

There's nothing to stop a car **passenger** opening their door without looking, exactly the same as a car parked on the right hand side of a one-way street. Its happened to me once.

Frankly this road is weird and I prefer to find a normal route instead. The fix for this road is to remove all on-street parking, and that won't go down with the homeowners.
