A complex but informative CCC map outlining
capital works coming up in the next couple of years. Heathcote Express Stage II – Tannery to Martindales Road is scheduled to start August 2020. Several other cycleway routes are mentioned also.

I stand corrected. But I am unsure to what extent the Heathcote Expressway is affected by the back-pedaling related to the targeted funding by the NZTA (https://newsline.ccc.govt.nz/news/story/council-nzta-in-talks-over-funding). I feel a little underinformed about this problem by Council and never read any follow up on this story by the local newspaper.

2.7m funds committed, and work planned in 2019/20 Annual Plan. 5.7m funds committed and work forecast for 2020/21.
Page 27 of Planned capital programme detailed by activity. I understood that things were going to happen quite soon. This, along with the Quarryman’s Trail completion through to Halswell was brought forward.

In reply to Hendriks. Hmm, unfortunately the council does not have the best track record in providing separation on busy roads. Look at the DEMP. 15,000 vpd on Innes Rd, 11,000 vpd on Warrington St (technically not an arterial, but one by volume), yet no separation provided, only painted cycle lanes. It is illusory to think this offers modal choice or incentivizes modal shift. The DEMP would have been the perfect opportunity to have separated cycle paths outside the MCRs, but it was passed. Same will happen here. That being said, when the time comes, let's all submit to prove me wrong.
