It’s really hard to fit everything in 150 words – to balance local and citywide priorities, past achievements and future goals etc. I’m also keen to enhance public transport and pedestrian amenity, so couldn’t fit all in. That’s why I keep an active Fb page with lots of posts on my priorities etc… quite a bit about cycling in there I think 😉

In reply to Jan Jakob. “As Councillor Pauline was “captured” by the inertia of “how government works” and slow to realize that people were truly outraged, she has been good on cycleways.” I think the Innes Ward situation is a unique case at the moment when talking all things transport; extremely difficult times for anyone who represents the people ( Northern Arterial extension and all that.. ) My recommendation in this forum would be to consider the first 21 words as a little off-topic and underscore the final six words.

In reply to Pauline Cotter. This indeed a little odd. It says at the beginning that 'Text in “” are from the candidate’s statement. Where they were clear and brief, they got quoted', but I can't find any source for Pauline Cotter ever having said that which is attributed to her.

I resent the comment that I was captured by anything. As an elected member I believe I have navigated good collaboration between staff and the community and as a result we have achieved a really positive outcome for the community , the environment and safety for the suburb of St Albans, where I live for goodness sake. I have put in hours of work behind the scenes to facilitate the changes and outcomes for the community. Your reporting is biased and superficial.
You say I have been “good” on cycleways…. thanks, but in the light of your other praises for candidates that you like, this is very small praise indeed from the Chair of the committee with the delegation for the MCRs. I have worked endless hours with staff, residents, numerous site visits, committee workshops consultations and more consultations, meetings with Spokes and affected residents to get each cycleway route selected, and then delivered. It has been a huge challenge that I have led the committee on. I also cycle everyday. I do not like singing my own praises, because I’m the sort of person that just likes to get the job done, get the best outcome for communities, but I have felt compelled to speak out in fairness .

I’m pretty sure “transport options” means cycleways. I wonder if they think that stating that support more openly will not gain them any votes, in that cycleway supporters will likely already know who to support, and might lose them some?

Fendalton candidates are a disappointing lot. David is mediocre, which is, sadly, good for a Fendalton candidate. You can check out his climate change positions at the link. Yet neither of them pushed cycleways in their blurbs. Mike didn’t say anything about them (https://www.ccc.govt.nz/the-council/how-the-council-works/council-elections/2019-candidates/papanui-ward/), Sara did but only the Coastal Path specifically (https://www.ccc.govt.nz/the-council/how-the-council-works/council-elections/2019-candidates/heathcote-ward/). That seemed strange to me given the massive groundswell of support for cycling we saw in Share an Idea. Do our candidates doubt that support?
