In reply to Craig Falconer. Note the concrete "door zone" separating the asphalt cycleway from the parking area. Some kind of separation from the left side of parked cars is pretty standard for most cycleways in Chch too.

I cycle along there from time to time and thought it was fantastic. I have no issues whatsoever with the design of the path aside from a transformer being planted right in the middle of one particular spot. The cyclepath is wide and smooth and safe and that’s what really matters. I just wish it was extended from the train station all the way up to Jackson Street Petone.

This cycleway looks pretty good to me. I think the green and red strips convey the message well. I especially like the lighter asphalt buffer between the cycleway and the parked cars to allow for opening doors… I wish there was something similar on Tennyson street where I’ve had a few near misses.

Honestly? I loathe passing parked cars on their left. I’d rather stay on the road lane for my own safety.

Plus a “please slow down” sign means nothing, other than transferring all blame for any accident to the cyclist for “not slowing down enough”

Don’t mean to sound negative sorry – any bike facility shows someone has thought of cycling, which is a good thing.
