It’s a bad habit in NZ, also in Christchurch, that cars park half on the (painted) cycle path forcing cyclist to do very dangerous maneuvers. This needs to be reinforced more strongly by towing cars that block cycle paths and give them big-time fines!

I predict on-street parking will slowly vanish from the CBD. It will hang on in suburbs for decades, but if you own a car then you need to budget for all the rest of the costs.

Parking will end up like WOF and rego, just an expected cost.

Tow the cars illegally parked, sell the cars and give the owners a very hefty fine and use the money to pay more parking wardens to nab more offenders.

Make a nationwide law that only allows car parking on one side of the road. (roads cost a lot of money, it is just stupid to spend so much money on expensive carparks on roads. Roads are for driving on not parking lots. Less cars parked on roads mean more room for car drivers and cyclists.
