Wayne, The CCC ITE ( infrastructure, transport , environment ) committee approved to undertake the 'avenue to centre' separation of the 4 major cycleways currently constructed that do not have it, at a meeting in February. I understood that work would begin some time in 2019

That always seems to happen, doesn't it. Like the Mike Hosking survey (admittedly non-representative). There's a noisy minority who're anti-everything

I've been wondering about something for a while, but not sure where to look.

At the moment, the Papanui Parallel drops southbound riders at Bealey/Columbo where you're mixing with traffic. The connection to the river and other town routes is missing and the incomplete network is a real letdown.

As far as I can tell, it's part of the accessible city works by the council to join these up. Where can I find out more info about this?

I neglected to mention the funding for the widespread public bikeshare scheme about to begin, which will certainly improve access to PT (i.e. simply bike to a bus rather than having to find and wait for a connecting bus service). Also the Rapanui/Shag Rock cycleway (partly completed) connects Linwood and Bromley to the city. And the Avon-Otakaro cycleway will link the river suburbs from New Brighton into town in a few years.

I see nothing in this plan, in terms of better access to public transport or improved cycleways, for Chch East. Once again, the poorer suburbs appear to miss out, where arguably this investment is needed most

Hi and thanks for writing this in such a positive manner. I know that many will be disappointed by the delay in completing the MCRs, but the timeframes will change again once the NZTA Funding Assistance Rates are confirmed. Currently the auditor won’t let us budget for them, so once we get the top-up then the funding we do have on budget will go much further and we’ll be able to do more, sooner :)
There’s also a resolution in the Mayor’s Recomendations that we deliberately do this reprioritisation once the rates are through - and this will include other projects such as the Coastal Pathway, which was supposed to be a MCR is the original Chch Transport Strategy.
The support for cycleways was fantastic in the consultation - it was THE most positively commented on project in the entire LTP! The submissions and deputations to the hearings were both numerous and effectively well written. THANK YOU to all who are helping bring Chch into the future!
