Personally, the few times I've biked down this road, I've elected to use the road. Other road traffic knows what to expect from a bicycle, and popping out from behind parked cars would be "unanticipated and unpredictable"

Also having almost been doored by a passenger getting out of a car parked on the right hand side of a one-way street has opened my eyes to being predictable.

Accidents happen when things become unpredictable - the "what are you doing?" moment.

I found it by accident one weekend on an exploratory ride round my new neighbourhood. The day I discovered it was rubbish day, so there were bins around the pathway. Like a lot of cycling infrastructure, once you get to know it, its easy enough, but navigating it for the first time (it took a while for me to realize it was even there!) was interesting.

living nearby I use parts of it often and it always feels like santcuary. The kerbs discourage parking hard against them leaving room to squeeze around a door.
Most of the cross street curb cuts are a little abrupt on a rigid, the one at the start by the river heading towards Colombo St particulary so. I'm sure it discourages some roadies from entering it, sometimes to the ire of motorists up the hill. They put a little blob of tar and gravel in a couple of them when they built it which transitions them nicely.
Continuing up Strickland St would be very nice but I could never see these dimensions working in commercial, high vehicle movement areas.

They're currently doing planning for the first six routes; probably looking at stuff on the ground in the next 1-2 years. Will post more details when I get it.

It looks great, I'm looking forward to the new $70m cycleways being implemented around the city. Have you heard any timeframe for them being built?

I happened to ride along it a few weeks ago, and although the actual cycleway isn't the smoothest surface in the world at times, it was awesome. Having a separated cycleway not only makes you feel heaps safer, it also gives you a sense of legitimacy as a different form of road transport, and gives a visual sign to cars that cyclists are a valid part of the transport mix on the roads. More of these please!
