Two years later… we know that its too low and the river floods the path and the left lane of the road in extreme rain. And we also know its not actually a cycle lane, this wooden area is purely footpath and was never intended for bikes.

It is good. I cycle along the on-road cycle way most days. I would consider using the off-road cycle way except the ramp to hop, along the with yellow guard rail added, makes the turn a bit sharp.
I do agree that it is a very nice feature, and the ramp at the northern end to take you off into Cambridge Tce are create
